Teaching at the Sitka Center

Workshop Program

Workshop proposals for summer 2009 are due August 15, 2008.

Workshop Proposal Guidelines for Instructors

The Sitka Center's 80-class Annual Workshop Program is taught by a diverse group of approximately 65 instructors. These instructors come from around Oregon and the nation to teach in a stunning and inspiring environment with dedicated students. Each year, we seek 15 – 20 new instructors to refresh and invigorate our programs.

If you are interested in becoming a workshop instructor, please follow the process below. Thank you for your interest in the Workshop Program of the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology!

Step One

Review the mission of the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Review the current year's Workshop Program catalog carefully. Consider how your workshop idea fits with the Sitka Center's mission of promoting the intersection of art and ecology, and what it adds to the breadth of courses described in the catalog.

Step Two

If you believe your workshop idea fits with the Sitka Center's mission and will add value to the course offerings at the Center, please develop a workshop proposal that includes the information listed below. You may mail your proposal, email as text or an attachment to info@sitkacenter.org. If you send it as an attachment (preferred), ensure your document is standard word-processing format that can be opened and read by both Mac and PC users.

Proposals must be received at the Sitka Center by August 15th to be considered for the following year's Workshop Program.

  • Workshop Title (brief, informative)
  • Instructor Name (your name)
  • Number of Days required for the workshop (1-5 day range)
  • Preferred Dates (months--from spring through autumn--when you'd be available to teach the workshop at the Sitka Center)
  • Daily Instructor Fee (per six-hour day; new instructor average $150-$175/day; housing accommodations are provided by the Sitka Center)
  • Materials Fee (cost of materials for which you will need reimbursement)
  • Maximum Number of Workshop Participants (studios can accommodate up to 16)
  • Student Age Requirements (minimum--and/or maximum--age of participants)
  • Student Skill Requirements (list skill level--beginner, intermediate, advanced--and prerequisites)
  • Workshop Description (a full description, including what participants can expect each day and what product--if any--they can expect to complete)
  • Instructor Biography (a succinct description of your approach to teaching and your qualifications for teaching this workshop)
  • Two Materials Lists (list of materials to be provided by instructor and paid for with materials fee, and list of materials students should bring with them)
  • Special Equipment Needs (e.g., digital projector and screen)
  • References (three references--with name, telephone, email, and address supplied--preferably from organizations where your workshops have been offered in the past)

Step Three -
