Sitka Center's strategic planning process took place in Spring and Summer of 2007, with implementation anticipated in 2008. The overarching goal is to articulate a shared vision and set of strategies to guide our operations and governance over the next few years.
As part of the initial assessment, we conducted a total of five think tank sessions. Through these gatherings, we engaged professionals, practitioners and stakeholders in identifying trends, opportunities and promising practices for the Sitka Center’s future. Paula Manley, a consultant who works with many nonprofit arts and cultural groups throughout the U.S., facilitated the think tank sessions.
Topics included:
- Core Programs, asking how the Sitka Center can best serve the next generation through the evolution of its programs.
- Sitka Center and Its Environment, asking what it means to be place-based, including the natural and social aspects of our environment, and what that suggests for the Sitka Center’s future.
- Communication and Marketing: Telling the Story, about communicating the Sitka Center’s mission in the future.
- Sitka Art Invitational: The Next Generation, charting the future of the Art Invitational, including exploring what has been unique about this event that must be carried forward, and what new opportunities are on the horizon.
- Resources: Leadership and Funding, assessing trends in nonprofit governance, management and fund development, and what they suggest for the Sitka Center’s future.
