Gallery Beppu Wiarda GalleryBorn 1-Jan-54, Inglewood, CA Medium Linoleum blockprint/monotype www.beppugallery.com Technique My blocks are made with battleship linoleum which, when heated slightly with a lamp or heating pad, is easy to cut. I start with a drawing (to figure out all the values) and then transfer the drawing in reverse on the block. The more complete the drawing is on the block the more fun it is to carve. Recently I started making monotypes, a more spontaneous process with no preliminary drawing--just an idea and decisions about color. I use a plexiglass plate and rags, brushes, etc., to wipe away the ink. Interests When I was 21 I drove the Al/Can Hwy with a girlfriend. I met my future husband in Homer, Alaska. He was building a log cabin in a fjord, 15 miles by boat from town. No electricity. Several years later we sold that property and bought salmon fishing permits in Bristol Bay. For almost 20 years we spent summers in a remote beach camp. These wilderness experiences influenced my work as I had the opportunity to observe birds, animals, the weather: the power of Nature.
