Gala Bent
Date of residency
2011

(American, b. 1975) Gala Bent is an artist and educator living in Seattle, Washington. She has a BFA in Painting from Ball State University in Indiana, an MFA in Visual Art from State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, and currently teaches visual arts at Cornish College of the Arts. The roots of her artistic practice stem from a childhood immersed with science and music as influenced by each of her parents career paths. Works on paper rely on a steady drawing practice infused with watercolor, gouache and ink, and are influenced by installations of collected and artist-made objects.

In addition to her own studio practice, Gala regularly collaborates with her husband, fellow artist Zack Bent, and their three children, and works as an illustrator with scientists and musicians to visually translate their abstract practices.

Gala’s work has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, and her work is in the collections of Microsoft Art Collection, Washington State Art Collection, City of Seattle – Portable Works Collection, Swedish Hospital, Seattle, WA, Jordan Schnitzer Print Collection, Portland, OR, Taylor University, Upland, IN, Ball State University, Muncie, IN, and Peninsula College, Port Angeles, WA.
