June Board Update

The Board is very pleased to announce that Jane Boyden and Laura Doyle are new board members. We welcome their long-term perspective and their connection with the coastal community. Carrie Hoops, interim executive director, gave us a one-month assessment during the June Board meeting. We will proceed with forming a short-term strategic plan to cover the next 18 months.Read More »

Sitka Art Invitational Turns 15 in 2008!

An energized group of Sitka Art Invitational enthusiasts gathered in Portland June 15 for a brainstorming session to kickoff the 2008 event. Ideas generated for the 2008 event included: creating a marketing plan to set the stage for increased sponsorships and participation, expanding educational opportunities by involving more schools that emphasize arts and the environment, and continuing the successful Patrons' Dinner initiated in 2006. Welcome Sitka Interns!

Casey Watson and Annamieka Hopps will assist instructors and staff with presenting educational workshops during the 2007 season. Visual artist, Casey Watson, most recently from Philadelphia is a graduate of California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Annamieka Hopps, from Oregon, pursued an apprenticeship from the Columbines School of Botanical Studies in botany, wild crafting and herbal medicine. Read More »

Call for 2008 Workshop Proposals

The Sitka Center's workshop program offers intensive explorations of various artistic and natural science issues. Each year 15-20 of our workshops are offered by instructors new to Sitka. We're currently accepting workshop proposals for our 2008 workshop season. Read the guidelines »

Crowley Creek Educational Project 2007

A multi-disciplinary team will spend the summer teaching Career Tech high school students about the ecology of nearby Crowley Creek. If you would like to help the group clear blackberries, monitor recently planted trees, map the large wood in the estuary, haul kayaks (the week of July 9), conduct natural oriented assessments or test out the newly designed "Quest Trail" contact corrina@salmondrift.org
