Sitka Summer Workshops

schutte2webGreetings from Sitka!
Are you feeling like summer is slipping away? It's not too late! Come to the Oregon coast and relish in our not-too-hot weather while unleashing your creativity in one of our dazzling workshops.

Make Photos That Last

Revel in 5 days of photography, deeply sinking into thoughts of imagination, beauty, mood, and so much more.

Peter Schutte takes students beyond the snapshot and into the art of photography. Let Peter's work tempt you into indulging in this class

Print on Ceramic

masthem

Loads of hands-on experimenting with applying prints and color to fired and unfired clay is what this workshop is all about. Learn a variety of techniques through demonstrations and hands-on experimentation. You will go home with plenty of samples using a variety of techniques.

Birds, Birds, Birdshedley

Connect with the delicate intricacies involved in drawing birds. Work will be done using a limited watercolor palette so the focus is on the plumage

.Lex is from New Zealand and has taught drawing and painting birds in Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.

Write Songs!

ross

Songs touch our heart and soul in ways a book or conversation just can't match. Has songwriting intrigued you? Are you fascinated by lyrics? Learn to write songs from Marv Ross, a songwriter and playwright and recipient of gold and platinum albums

The emphasis will be on the "lyric" aspect of composing and you will write, or co-write, at least one song.

Carving "Raven"haavikraven

Have you visited Sitka and marveled at the totem pole in the Maveety Courtyard? Jay Haavik is the instructor who led a class in carving that pole. In this workshop offering, Jay guides you in carving the wooden bowl pictured here.

Carve this 10" long bowl in Northwest Native style with a Raven head and a human and hawk face. View more of Jay's incredible work.

Fuse Glass On Metal

hagaLee Haga taught this class earlier in the summer and it was full. We're thrilled to offer a second chance to take it!

This process of enameling explores kiln-fired, powdered, and liquid glass on various surfaces. The results are stunning! Make jewelry, vessels, and steel wall panels. Learn more about it in the link below.

Make Earth Sing!

kailStudents are giddy when they transform clay into ocarinas and rattles! Shape your instrument from clay then fire it to complete the perfectly functioning instrument.

While there will be no grand finale concert, beautiful music will undoubtedly be wafting from the studio as students play their newly created instruments.

Build A Boat

chamberlainYes, you read this correctly. In this class, you will build a boat! Construct a wooden boat lovingly called 'NUF, because it's just 'NUF for a person or two.

All the skills, and most of the materials, are provided to build the boat. Excitement cannot be contained on the last day as the boat builders launch their boat into the nearby Salmon River for a short maiden voyage.
