Workshop Overview

This two-day workshop offers an opportunity to create a nature journal and then immediately use it in the Sitka Center environs. In the morning, construct your own journal with various papers made for painting, sketching or writing and sections to hold field samples. In the afternoon we will learn nature journaling techniques that will help you improve your observational and drawing skills to gain knowledge about your subjects. Sitka is the perfect setting to begin this journey. We will learn about structures of natural objects like plants and shells and observe their environments and their relationships to other living things. There will be many handouts and models, layout and lettering samples and journaling styles. On day two you will learn basic watercolor or watercolor pencil techniques and then try out your new skills around Sitka.
