Workshop Overview

In this workshop we will explore techniques for building form using traditional basketweaving structures. We will begin with learning basic techniques to create vessels and will move to exploring sculptural forms. Through walks around Cascade Head we can draw inspiration from the tapestry of branches in the forest and the tangles of driftwood on the beach. We will work with basketry reed to create structure, with opportunities for incorporating found objects and locally harvested material to ground our work in the site of its making. Participants will leave with completed works and technical skills to continue building vessels and sculptures.

About the Instructor(s)

Angela Eastman weaves together knowledge of traditional craft techniques and a place-based approach to making to facilitate workshops that engage with the natural landscape while building craft skills. Angela has taught workshops to kids and adults in sculpture, ceramics, basketry and jewelry.
