Workshop Overview

Do you have a nesting instinct? Take mixed media to a new level. Learn to use torn and cut maps and magazine pages to create striking two-dimentional bird nests—real and imaginary. Discover how to use recycled paper and found ephemera like paint to create a unique work of art. You will be guided through the technical challenge of making realistic renderings from recycled materials and produce one or two frame-ready works of art. No drawing skill needed. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult.

About the Instructor(s)

Susan Schenk has been teaching a new form of collage for 10 years, helping students who want to paint with paper to create frame ready works without extensive drawing skills or expensive supplies. Focusing on shapes, she guides students to create representational works using paper as a form of mosaic.
