About the Instructor(s)

Monica fell in love with weaving as senior at Portland State. She was fortunate to have Solange Kowert for her instructor. After a stint in the Peace Corps she devoted as much time to weaving as she could.  Early shows, which were all weaving, were at the old Contemporary Crafts Gallery.  In the mid-80’s Exhibits were and continue to be of wood and weaving works. Exhibits have been at the Attic and later at the Gallery at Salishan,  the Freed Gallery and Art Elements Gallery, in addition to other galleries around the state.  Major influences continues to be techniques from countries where weaving remains alive as part of the culture.  Sumac technique from the Middle East continues to be a major interest.
