Fused Glass is a beautiful mosaic technique that combines multiple pieces of glass by firing in a kiln. This method allows you to show details and pattern that you couldn't normally get from glass. The focus of this workshop will be Sea Animals and you will choose your favorite, make it in fused glass, and then finish it off inside of a 9 x 12" glass mosaic. Learn how to cut glass, use enamel paint or glass frit on your fused glass animal, and then how to set and grout your mosaic. Stencils will be provided for Orca Whale, Sea Turtle, Starfish etc. or you can bring your own 6 x 6" design.
Mark Brody has been a working artist since graduating from Lewis and Clark College with degrees in art and education. He has taught mosaic and created installations with students in Portland Public Schools for sixteen years. What Mark finds fascinating about mosaic is how the completion of each new project is a transforming and enriching experience. The laying of the tiles is a meditative process of finding the proper shape for pattern, symmetry and design. Mark has compiled many of these ideas and techniques into his new how-to book on mosaic: Mosaic Garden Projects, published by Timber Press.
