Building with Textures Gleaned from Nature

Create personalized clay vessels inspired by your favorite natural textures using a unique variation on coil building. Each work will develop layer by layer from the bottom to the top, reflecting the way botanical forms generate growth. This free-form style of building begins with simple planning: Participants are encouraged to bring images or objects found outdoors, in the produce section, etc. We start with quick maquettes (3-D sketches), then begin vessels that can be completed within the weekend. Discussion throughout the workshop will include finishing techniques including underglaze washes and terra sigillata for surfaces that compliment nature.
