Workshop Overview

In this workshop, participants will learn about the dynamic practice of creating designs on objects with heat. While our focus will be on woodburning, participants will also learn about pyrography on canvas, leather and other natural materials. We will review different tools, tips and pyrography equipment for woodburning and practice on several different types of wood. Participants will also learn about various techniques, tricks and finishes to enhance their projects. Each participant will leave with several practice pieces and a select work of their own.

About the Instructor(s)

Melissa Romeo has experience leading studio workshops at both the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice, Italy. Melissa's workshops have been featured on Airbnb Experiences and she currently teaches in Portland, OR. While she loves working with paint and clay, her true passion is for pyrography. Applying heat and pressure to wood, Melissa brings new life to abandoned or forgotten pieces of unfinished wood.
