vocabulary through combining collage with paint. We’ll create a
generous stash of hand painted paper layering line, mark and
form on a variety of surfaces, including repurposed book pages,
then arrange these papers, puzzle-like, into abstract compositions.
Elements of chance and intention merge in this format. Collage is
forgiving and allows for much experimentation before committing
to final designs. Finally, we’ll look at ways many contemporary
painters use ‘resting space’ in their work and discuss when and
how to use transparency and opacity to quiet the work.
Intermediate level. Water based media only.
Zoe’s abstract painting springs from her lifelong fascination with mid-century art and design, Abstract Expressionism, The New York School painters and the historic influences which shifted the locus of the international art scene from Nazi occupied Europe to New York following WWII.
Teaching has become an integral part of her art practice.
4 - 6 colors of water based paint (acrylic, gouache, water color)
1 or more FW acrylic ink (black / sepia / antelope brown)

4 Cradled panels (your choice of size no larger than 20 x 20)
1 rubber brayer and paint scrapers
A selection of washi paper; Rice paper, Mulberry, Sekichu etc.
