Workshop Overview

Join the Sitka Center in Portland at the World Forestry Center for this Abstracted Watercolor Haiku workshop. To abstract literally means to leave out. Working from nature inspiration, students will use watercolor to compose visual haiku. The structure of paintings by master abstract artists will be examined and used as scaffolding to build related but unique works.

Simplification, contrast and subtlety will be project goals for each day. Learn about shape, color, texture and line through experiments with the fluid properties of watercolor pigments. Learn about layering and lifting for maximum flexibility. You’ll fall in love with this fluid medium.
