Workshop Overview

Bind, illustrate and letter your own writing piece into an artist book! Here we learn simple techniques to create a short writing piece from our own experience to letter and illustrate in a soft-cover artist's book with a spine. We will complete one book as a draft while learning the binding technique and cultivating our own illuminated voice in fluid acrylics on printmaking paper. We will then make a second book to master the process. This class is suitable for beginners with no writing or art experience and is also useful for experienced artists wanting to develop their work.

About the Instructor(s)

Alexandra Schaefers is an artist-poet hybrid from Corvallis where she paints plein air in local woodlands and illustrates poems. She strives to make work that blurs the artificial boundary between humans and nature, believing if we reclaim our rightful place in nature we will become better stewards of the planet and our own bodies and minds. As an art teacher, she encourages people to suspend judgment and create from a genuine place. She believes art is a powerful way to celebrate one's inner nature in which we find the same beauty as our favorite wild places.
