Workshop Overview

For centuries naturalists have recorded the cyclical and seasonal activities of the natural world unfolding in time – frost date, bird migration, flower budding, leaf fall. Attention to the timing of such ecological events has a renewed primacy in this era of global change. In this workshop we will explore the junctures where language, landscape and timescape intersect. Through writing exercises in concert with fieldwork and excursions, we will hone our skills of observation, inquiry and reflection. Using traditional Coptic bookbinding, we will then build personal field diaries that open flat: perfect for sketching, writing and tracking the unique rhythms of your home place.
