Workshop Overview
Flash fiction and prose poetry are gaining popularity as writers employ brevity and frankness to serve as witness to fraught times. This course will explore the affordances of these forms: what they are, how they function, and the ways in which they allow us to process anger, shock, bewilderment, grief, thankfulness, and healing. Participants will discuss works that achieve a variety of effects and purposes, experiment with generative prompts, and produce one piece of flash fiction and one prose poem to be presented to the workshop.
About the Instructor(s)
Anne Price is a poet originally from southern Louisiana. She believes writing is a form of prayer, that through the act of writing we challenge ourselves and our readers to expand, morph, and heal. After completing her MFA at the University of Maryland, Anne moved to the Pacific Northwest, where she now lives and writes. She has since worked with the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, Poetry Northwest, and Hugo House. You can find her work in The Journal, The Pinch, Poet Lore, and elsewhere.
