Workshop Overview

Experience a guided walk on Grass Mountain, Sitka’s newly acquired 80-acre property, co-led by Executive Director, Alison Dennis and Facilities and Ecology Manager, Bob Langan. Participants will walk through coastal forest and meadows and explore the land's past, present and future. All ages welcome. We will cover approximately one mile on foot including some moderate inclines and declines. Plan on walking and standing for 1.5 hours. Registered participants will meet up at the Sitka Center Library on the main campus before carpooling out to Grass Mountain together. An optional brown bag lunch will take place back on the main campus after the tour.

Guest instructors:

Vicki Boeckman is thrilled to be returning to teach at the Winds and Waves workshop and collaborate with her fabulous colleagues. Her career as a professional recorder player has been a highly rewarding journey and she delights in the opportunities to play in a wide variety of musical styles. Since settling in Seattle in 2004, Vicki has been a featured soloist with Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, The Oregon Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Portland Opera, Medieval Women's Choir, Gallery Concerts, Philharmonia Northwest Orchestra, and the Skagit Symphony. She adores playing chamber music of all styles in various configurations with colleagues in Seattle and around the country collaborating with new projects and ideas. Vicki is a two-time recipient of the recorder residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Oregon, and a two-time recipient of the Jack Straw Artist Support Program. Currently she is Music Director for the Seattle Recorder Society, co-director of the Recorder Orchestra of Puget Sound (ROPS) with colleague Charles Coldwell, and Artistic Director for the Port Townsend Early Music Workshop, (now held at UPS in Tacoma). Vicki has been on the faculty of Music Center of the Northwest since 2005 and adores teaching children as well as adults.
