Workshop Overview

Birthday candles, bonfires, menorahs, Christmas lights and Day of the Dead votives. Light is intrinsic to celebrations and rituals for cultures the world over. Let us capture, reflect and direct the light with luminarias. Students should bring a sense of wonder as we observe and sketch forms and textures inspired by our surroundings. You’ll use malleable light metal to create luminarias with traditional and unconventional tools and techniques. Wire, found objects, trinkets and treasures will embellish your creations. At the close of our workshop, we will gather, light our luminarias and reflect on the process.
