Workshop Overview

If you would like to wander through the back country with confidence and safely explore the wilderness, come learn how! A combination of lectures and practice outdoors at Sitka's grassy headlands and forest will cement your knowledge and inspire you to go further. This workshop will take place on our new 80 acre property called Grass Mountain. Survival lectures include orienteering: how to \"stay found\" in the back country, map & compass navigation, ten essentials of outdoor safety, clothing, hypothermia, earthquake preparedness and a treasure hunt! We will practice techniques in back country first-aid, shelter building, and fire-building.

Note: You will receive directions to Grass Mt upon registration.

About the Instructor(s)

Jane Pagliarulo has been a professional outdoor guide for 30 years. She escaped to the mountains to kayak, rock climb and cross-country ski. A move to New Mexico brought a desire to climb higher, so she joined a Search and Rescue team to learn how. She performed Swift Water Rescue, Avalanche Rescue and First Aid and became a whitewater rafting guide. After 7 years of wandering the deserts and mountains of New Mexico, rescuing people and leading adventures, Jane moved to Oregon. Outdoor guiding and painting landscapes are her passions. She loves sharing her knowledge of the great outdoors.
