Workshop registration opens for members on February 27.
Use leaves, branches, flowers and grass as resists to create pattern on cotton or linen cloth with fiber reactive dye. Make a nature-themed table mat, pillow cover or gift wrapping cloth by applying dye directly on prepared fabric with little water and no heat. The fabric will need to “cure” for several hours or overnight, so washing and finishing will be done at home.
Retired from the corporate world, Sylvia Emard now indulges her primary interests in textile art, hand weaving and surface design. She teaches weaving at a Portland yarn store, and weaves, dyes and teaches private classes out of her home studio. Sylvia exhibits work at various Portland-area venues.
ESSENTIAL:
• Rubber gloves
• Apron
• Cotton and linen fabric, prepared for dyeing. Students will receive one 22-inch cotton square and will choose two other projects from an assortment of wearables and home décor items.
• Dyes and auxiliaries
• Plastic sheeting to wrap finished projects for curing
• A variety of brushes, rollers, spray and squeeze bottles for dye application
• Handout with instructions and resource list
