Workshop Overview

This workshop will introduce screen printing using painted filler and painted resist to produce each stencil rather than a typical photo emulsion stencil. Strategies for design, uses of opaque and transparent acrylic inks and registration will be applied to produce an edition of prints. Examples of serigraphs will be shown to discuss the possibilities of the process. Participants will be given enough information to set up their own home studios.

About the Instructor(s)

Having produced a portfolio of 160 editions, printing serigraphs has been Michael Guerriero's primary means of graphic expression. He prepares stencils for the most part by directly painting the screen with blockout or resist rather than using photo emulsion. His goal in teaching is to find a balance between technical elements and creative expression.

Michael has presented screen printing workshops throughout his career, from thirty screens wet with ink in an auditorium full of elementary school children to more in depth workshops like this one with several adults.
