Workshop Overview

Sitka Art Circles are a way to come together in a casual atmosphere to enliven your creative spirit through facilitated projects. In this unique class, we will discuss how to collect, process and use pigments from the earth to make our own handmade pastels. Students will make a range of colored pastels from the instructor's personal collection of pigments gathered in her travels throughout Oregon and will come away with a simple recipe and their own unique pastel crayons. Pastels will need to dry for several days afterward until they are completely hard all the way through before using.

About the Instructor(s)

Professional artist Sondra Holtzman paints in watercolor, pastel and oil and leads workshops in her home state of Oregon, throughout the United States and abroad. A record keeper of an evolving life, her sketchbooks and journals reflect musings of travels afar and close to home. Sondra's work has been published in 1000 Artist Journal Pages and Signatures: The Art Journal Collection by Somerset Studio. For her, the true joy of being an artist also lies in the sharing of her passion with others, helping guide them toward their own artistic voice.
