Workshop Overview

Earth needs our testimony, but not our stridency. In this workshop we will seek ways to compose persuasive testimony to protect the places we love and the health of the planet, with language in keeping with the beauty of the natural world. As a river testifies, so shall we—flow, light, grace. As a tree testifies, so shall we—a lofty intelligence, rooted to fact. The wild needs our voices to sing. The conversation of our time requires witness for the wild world, and we are the ones to speak beauty to power.

About the Instructor(s)

For Kim Stafford, the landscape is the teacher, and he facilitates the process of this teaching. In his practice, he uses a variety of writing prompts to invite artists in the workshop to find their own direction, and then follow with verve. As we share our work in progress, we teach each other.

Kim Stafford teaches in many settings, but at Sitka he feels richly accompanied by the teaching the place itself offers us all, and the graceful hospitality of the Sitka staff.
