Workshop Overview

We don’t live in our lives. We live in the stories we tell about our lives. And we may not realize how our stories about difficult experiences are hurting us. This workshop will offer a series of poems, prompts, rituals and writing exercises designed to mine \"failures\" for wisdom and alchemy. We will explore ways to rewrite what hurt you into what eventually heals you. You’ll gain tools and strategies for writing as a transformational practice, and you’ll leave with several poems, essays or story starts (you choose) and one longer piece to return to on your own.

About the Instructor(s)

Sage Cohen is the author of Fierce on the Page, The Productive Writer, Writing the Life Prophetic, and the poetry collection Like the Heart, The World. She’s taught creative writing at New York University, Wordstock and the Willamette Writers Conference. Sage has rewritten losses like divorce and miscarriage from heartbreak to healing. She believes writing can be a powerful transformational path for all of us.
