The Fluid Beauty of Alcohol Ink on Ceramic Tile

Alcohol inks are wonderfully vibrant and yet translucent, and work especially well on ceramic tiles. Learn how to work with this vivid ink media in a one day instructional workshop. Learn several techniques and receive lots of tips and tricks for success. We will begin the day with a few exercises to familiarize you with the media and techniques for working with it. It is very easy to "wipe the slate clean" and begin again, so participants will feel free to play and experiment. After lunch I will demo techniques to create more specific designs and compositions.

Angela is an award-winning watercolorist and instructor and a juried member of several art societies. She began teaching acrylics in 1984 and studied in oil from 2002 to 2003. In 2006 she changed directions and studied watercolor techniques in Florence, Italy. She began teaching watercolor classes and workshops in 2008. Angela’s watercolor, Blackberry Reflection, is featured on the cover of this year’s Sitka catalog.

In Person Participants Bring:

• 4-6 or more 4"x4" ceramic tiles – These can be found for a few cents at home depot

• 1-2 or more 6"x6" ceramic tiles

• Several colors of Alcohol Ink - your choice of colors. Recommended brands:

Ranger ,Tim Holtz, Jacquard Pinata Colors

• One large can of "Compressed Air" – the kind used to clean keyboards works and can be found at office supply stores, online or large department stores. Office depot brand is called ‘Cleaning Duster’

• One bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol

• Small spray bottle (for alcohol)

• Cotton Balls and Q-tips

• Small paintbrush

• Small ceramic palette or ceramic dish. World Market has inexpensive divided ceramic dishes. (A plastic dish will work but the ink will stain it severely and it doesn’t clean up as easily as ceramic)

• Micron Waterproof ink pens for drawing. (i.e. white, black, brown)

• Blending solution – made by Ranger specifically to use with Alcohol Inks

• Roll of paper towels

• A sack lunch

• Your creativity and a plan to play and have fun

Optional:

• Small bottle with needle tip – I got mine from amazon

Online Participants Bring:

• 4" x 4" ceramic tiles - I would suggest 4 to 6 or more - These can be found for a few cents at home depot

• 6" x 6" ceramic tiles - I would suggest 1 to 2 or more
