Workshop Overview

There is such freedom in letting dyes flow and interact with each other. Silk is a durable, luxurious and versatile fabric that is ages old. Its appeal is the manner in which dyes travel and spread across the surface, blending and mixing colors and creating textures. As we learn techniques and methods, the appeal of silk painting is ever fresh because we learn how to manipulate the materials to create the effects we desire.

Silk painting is an excellent beginning to exploring art making. You can experience success from your first project. No prior experience is required. In our two days together, we will experiment with the Serti method of painting, which includes creating enclosed shapes with the use of a resist (gutta). After that, we will move on to other methods of painting on silk.
