Workshop Overview

\"In our marginal existence, what else is there but this voice within us, this great weirdness we are always leaning forward to listen to?\" Mary Ruefle

In writing, voice is more than just tone. It’s the accumulation of your experience, perspective, obsession, heartbreak and joy. Delve into the voices of writers with signature sounds—Eudora Welty, Gabriel García Márquez, Joan Didion, and others—through exercises in mimicry and homage. Then test the range of your writing voice by practicing on new and existing work of your own. We will take advantage of the solitude at Sitka to try new, brave voices in our work.

Expect to come away with a new take on old work as well as some new pieces.
