Catherine Bowen’s paintings are often inspired by nature. Her Untitled series consists of monochromatic, abstract landscapes. Each piece from this series is given incredible depth through a textured surface, created from scratching the surface and applying multiple layers of paint. Other series of the artist’s contain a broader color palette. Juxtaposing objects in a non-traditional way gives a surreal feeling to a number of Bowen’s paintings. Catherine received her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art. She has exhibited at a number of institutions, including Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, University of Massachusetts, Lowell, MA, and Columbia Art Gallery, Hood River, Oregon.
