Grass Mountain Residency

The Grass Mountain Residency is available for artists, writers and scientists for stays anywhere from 2 weeks to 3.5 months. Just 2 miles from the main Sitka campus and surrounded by 80 acres of experimental forest, the residency at Grass Mountain offers a more secluded and private residency opportunity. It's also a great option for residents who want to bring their families. We welcome applications from team collaborations as well as from individuals seeking more space to accomadate their family.

Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency Dates (for experienced artists new to printmaking):
Session 1- Sept. 28 - Oct. 11, 2020
Session 2- Oct. 19 - Nov. 1, 2020
Session 3- Jan. 18 - Jan. 31, 2021

  • Uninterrupted time to focus on art, writing or research
  • Opportunity to live on a secluded property with ocean views and surroudned by 80 acres of forest and wildlife
  • A private residence and workspace in a tranquil setting on the Oregon coast, adjacent to Cascade Head Scenic Research Area, the Salmon River estuary, and Cascade Head Experimental Forest



Artists, writers, scientists and researchers who will use the time to develop or complete their own projects· We are actively seeking applicants who are interested in responding to or working with Cascade Head Scenic Research Area, the Salmon River estuary, the experimental forest, or Federal scientists (i.e. from the Fish and Wildlife Service) interested in local ecosystems· We are also interested in supporting collaborative teams working specifically at the intersection of art and ecology.
