Workshop Overview

Channel your inner bird and create a collaged nest. Use recycled papers to create striking 2D bird nests—real and imaginary. You will be guided through the technical challenge of making realistic renderings from recycled materials, and produce one or maybe two, unique frame-worthy works of art.

About the Instructor(s)

Susan Schenk has been teaching a new form of collage for 10 years, helping students who want to paint with paper to create frame ready works without extensive drawing skills or expensive supplies. Focusing on shapes, she guides students to create representational works using paper as a form of mosaic.

Materials List: Students Bring

Color photo or photocopy of a nest. 8x10 is best. Many reference photos available in class.

Papers that are interesting to you—maps, music, scrapbook sheets, magazines

Bits of string, yarn, raffia, feathers to weave into your nest
