Sitka Center debuts the 20th Anniversary Folio of the Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency in an exhibition January 12 - February 28, 2021 at Waterstone Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
The annual Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency was established in 2002 to provide working artists with little or no printmaking experience the opportunity to explore a new creative medium with guidance, instruction and technical assistance from a master printmaker.
This exhibit will showcase prints created by nine Schnitzer Residency alumni brought back to create a 20th Anniversary Folio. Master printmaker Julia D'Amario created a tenth image. D'Amario was involved in the conception of the printmaking residency and has mentored every artist in the program. Her expertise and passion to share her printmaking knowledge has elevated and expanded the creative conceptions of those she works with.
In order to demonstrate the relationship between mediums, artists are showcasing artwork made in their traditional mediums alongside their 20th Anniversary folio print. The comparisons and contrasts created are evocative and revealing about each artist.
Featured artists for the exhibition and 20th Anniversary Folio are: Baba Wagué Diakite, Sabina Haque, Linda Hutchins, Dana Lynn Louis, Ryan Pierce, Larry Thomas, Patti Warashina, Heather Watkins, Marie Watt and Julia D'Amario.
Sitka will be hosting two virtual artist talks with the 20th Anniversary Folio artists via Zoom, free and open to the public:
