The Sitka Art Invitational is turning 25 and special plans are coming together to make this year memorable!
We are excited to announce that Oregon's Poet Laureate Kim Stafford will kick off the festivities with a poetry reading on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:30am in Miller Hall. Kim is a past Writer-in-Residence, longtime workshop instructor and has deep roots with Sitka.
Another special highlight at the Art Invitational is for fans of Alaskan artist Ray Troll! As a Sitka Artist-in-Residence in the spring of 2013, Ray created a meticulously detailed fossil map of Oregon in collaboration with paleontologist Dr. Kirk Johnson (director of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History) for their book Cruisin' the Fossil Coastline. The original drawing of the Oregon Fossil Map will be displayed at the exhibit and will be auctioned online with an opening bid of $3,500.
